Been here for the second time. Both of my visits have been pleasant and fun. I went to watch the movie, Thor: Ragnarok last night. One of the managers handed me a free collectable coin upon paying for the tickets! So nice! Discount is offered for military members too! This is my new place for movies in San Diego.
Nice location close to the 15 and lots of restaurants within walking distance. It wasn't cheap. About $75 for seats for 2 adults and 2 kids in one of the Imax theatres. Overpriced food and drinks just like any theater. They recently redid the seats (at least in the Imax theater) and they are much more comfortable, plus they assign seats so you can get there when the movie actually starts. Leather covers and they somewhat recline but they've got a spring on them so you can't stay reclined. Nice new big curved screen but they kept the seats in the same spots so if you are in the first 3 rows you are too close and it's uncomfortable and not worth it. Still one armrest for you and your neighbor to fight over too. Overall an improvement but at the new prices it's not worth it.
The staff is friendly, the bathrooms are well maintained, the popcorn is usually pretty good but often too salty.The legroom is too short, the new seats aren't comfortable, the interior areas need a lot of repair, deep cleaning and updating of carpets and flooring; consequently the prices are too high considering those drawbacks. In addition, the floor in the seating areas is often sticky and gooey (which attracts crawling insects), and needs to be mopped more often. We've also had to deal with hoards of disrespectful teenagers. I used to go to this theater every weekend, but not anymore. There are several theaters in the San Diego area that have upgraded to more comfortable seating and have a cleaner appearance. I still take in a movie or two every week, just not at this theater.
I went to a movie in the 3D IMAX theater. It was awesome. Tremendous movie experience in super comfortable soft leather seating. Seating was assigned so I got to choose my seat prior to the film. It was very wxpensive at 21 bucks though. After popcorn and a soda I was in for about 35 dollars total. That's a lot but the movie experience was top notch.
