Went here a week ago while in San Diego to visit Sea World. While eating dinner had symptoms of a stroke, drove here and
I'm just so irritated by this.. Who would have thunk an oncology department that is concerned about someone being offended by Breast Cancer Awareness..
Within two minutes of walking in front door had an IV in both arms. Assigned bed B7 in emergency room. Nurse Jennifer was the BEST. She was very knowledgeable with a great sense of humor. Doctors ran series of tests and released me only after they were satisfied that I had Bells Palsy and not a stroke.
a very busy place waiting time 5 hours it is better to talk to the ambulance and they pass you directly do not wait
Me and my family are very thankful with Jeremy RN , my daughter was at the emergency room on Friday September 15, 2017 he is the most caring and supporting person we ever meet at a hospital. He is an awesome person, very positive and helpful, also the hospital is very clean, first class. THANK YOU! from Sara Rojas and Family.
As a breast cancer survivor and an RN myself, I think Kaiser is letting a few determine the importance of this month and it's message. The message... Check your breast and for those with or have battled this disease.. We are behind you...
Final note... One out of 8 women are affected by breast cancer, THAT is offensive!
Kaiser Zion Medical Center hires a large number of travel nurses. I'm assuming this is the case because they do not want to pay the benefits to a full time employee. They offer very little training to the travel nurses and have high expectations of the travel nurse. They have a different standard for full time employees and extend deadlines for them to meet the requirements of the nursing unit but travel nurses have to meet those expectations from the start of their assignment. If travel nurses cannot meet these requirements at the start of their assignment, their contract is cancelled.
I have been a Kaiser patient since 1995 and have never had an issue with the care I received. In 2016 I was diagnosed with breast cancer and once again I received excellent care from my Oncologist to my plastic/general surgeons. My doctors get 5 STARS.. However, my issue with Kaiser Zion occurred when I went to my recent oncology appt. It was in October and most people are aware of the fact that October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Well, when I walked into the department to sign in I noticed that there were no posters or signs of Breast cancer month. I was surprised that an oncology department wouldn't promote this month. So, I asked the receptionist why no decorations. She explained that their supervisor made them take all decorations down and it was to remain as none personal/generic as possible So not to offend anyone. WELL I'M OFFENDED! To make matters worse, I was told by someone that works in the department that there was a recent situation with a patient that was offended/upset by a nurses shirt that had a breast cancer ribbon on it and the nurse was made to take off the shirt. The department has a pink day, but no ribbons.
Nurse managers are given too much authority in determining whether to let go of a travel nurse. If the travel nurse makes a mistake her contract is cancelled and she is sent home on the spot. The nurse has no chance to come before an executive team and voice her side of what happened. The nurse manager is given the sole discretion to terminate a travel nurse's contract.
Kaiser places patient safety as a top priority. What I saw as a travel nurse at Kaiser Zion Medical Center makes me question how this goal can be met. They were very often short staffed with nurses. I have had patients tell me that they noticed they have had to help out with their family member's care because they noticed that nursing staff was very overworked and understaffed.
Travel nurse are often given the more challenging patients and the least liked assignments by regular staff nurses. With so little orientation to a facility it is very easy to fail to follow that particular hospital's protocol.
