The service was also excellent. I wish I would have caught our waiters name, he was so much fun!
Stand there for 10 mins. Apparently I am a ghost. Left.
The food was really, really good and the portion sizes are HUGE. The fries are seasoned with a nice bbq salt, and the mac n' cheese was to die for! I would definitely recommend splitting meals, especially if your room doesn't have a fridge to store the leftovers.
I arrived at 3:30 and was 1 of 2 customers - but felt very much like I was inconveniencing them. I sat at the bar and ordered the Pig Mac burger on a recommendation from the bartender. Not good. $15 burger was dry with under-cooked bacon, no flavor, and dry, crumbling bun. This place is a disappointment - with so many fantastic places to eat in San Diego, don't waste your time here.
Poor selection of beers, bad service and unappetising food. We wanted to eat outside to avoid the nonstop sports screens in the bar, but were told that the only way to manage this complicated request was to provide our food in take out packaging with the usual useless plastic knives and forks. It would have been a simple matter for the staff to serve the food (a very basic offering) on plates with proper cutlery and carry it a very short distance to an outside table, but no.
The only drawback was the prices. Even during happy hour, our bill was $100 with tip! My husband and I both had the Smoked Bratwurst and 2 beers, my son at 12 wings ($0.50/wing during happy hour) and my daughter had Mac 'N Cheese. My kids each added fries to their meals, which were $5.00 per side! Beware of what you add on to your order, because it adds up FAST!
On our first night of our vacation in San Diego, my girlfriend and I ate here after waiting at the hostess stand for 10 minutes before any employee noticed us standing there. A waiter named Ian finally seated us without utensils or napkins and without informing us that the menus were already in the middle of the table folded up next to the wet naps. Once we received our bland, sub-par, over-priced food, Ian walked by our table over 6 different times without checking on us once--we also saw him standing around idly and talking to other people instead of doing his job. I had to flag down the manager to bring us utensils, a salt shaker, and napkins!! Ian finally stopped by our table a long while later when we were ready to leave, and I informed him of his poor service. He offered to go get the manager, whom we already saw there that evening, and Ian returned a couple minutes later and lied to us, saying that the manager was actually at another outlet. He comped our meal and said he hoped we would come back to Charlie's Bar again. Ian, what can I say. Service was the worst I've ever experienced at ANY restaurant, and we will NOT be returning.
We stopped at Charlie's for a late lunch during happy hour while staying at the Town and Country Resort.
