I've used Fox in Los Angeles several times now and, though i understand the frustrations posted in other reviews (I've definitely had them too), they are low-priced "for a reason." We don't pay as much because they are off-site / no-frills.
My only complaint is the persistence of getting upsold at the check in counter. I paid and reserved my car online, which I would HIGHLY recommend. We went upstairs to let the guys know we arrived and they let us take our car an hour early AND upgraded us at no extra charge. We rented a base model convertible but ended up with an upgrade. We got in and out, staff was very friendly. For drop off we filled our tank to the rim before we left our hotel, to avoid being late and paying for more time we dropped off the vehicle and it was a little above 3/4 tank. They wanted to charge us $53 for a little under a quarter tank but then kindly they waived it after I asked them how it could be $200 for a full tank of gas with them. I would definitely use them again, very affordable and as long as you stick to your guns, they wont up sale you.
I recently had a situation with a missed-flight which had me in need of serious customer service on many fronts, in both LA and in San Diego, which included the need for help/assistance from Fox. Granted, it took a lot of phone-time to coordinate but each and person I spoke/emailed with was kind, professional, understanding, and helped resolve what had been an otherwise horrible situation.
upon arrival to San Diego. I was faced with the reality that because I don't use credit cards and instead I use debit banking visa card, they wouldn't give me the car I reserved. so I got downgraded without getting compensated for the price difference. initially I got a sports car for 18 dollars a day I also bought insurance through their website. but somehow I ended up paying close to 200 bucks for three days to drive a Ford fusion and they held $450 as a deposit. very disappointed, I lost all the fun. stick to a major rental and stay away.
Tons of hidden fees in the shop. Pushy and sly uncharging. Had a great, clean, brand new car so that was good. We did have a scare at one point where the car wouldn't start for a few minutes. On a brand new 2017 Ford. It came to life, but was a scare for sure. We got to pick our own car which is nice, whereas other companies generally walk you to one. All around, decent experience.
So again, YES ... of course it can take a bit longer et cetera, but that's why they can offer up the lower prices for us. Thank you again for your help today Fox
It was very easy to get the car. But It would be nice if all the rental car co. Would change to way they price you pay when returning, ex. Your plane leaves at 3 but you car has to be returned by 9 or pay an extra day you could charge by the hour with proof of departure time. That is why I give a 3 star instead of 5.
